The Mets collected five doubles among their nine hits and defeated the Braves, 9-1. Nino Espinosa limited the Braves to six hits and gave up their only run on a walk to Biff Pocoroba, single by Gary Matthews and forceout by Barry Bonnell in the second inning.

A double by Joel Youngblood helped the Mets break a 1-1 tie with two runs in the fourth when Preston Hanna hurt himself with a wild throw and a wild pitch. In the seventh, the Mets scored four runs, two on a double by Ed Kranepool and one each on doubles by Lee Mazzilli and Joel Youngblood.
