Clay Carroll, making his first appearance with the White Sox since being obtained from the Cardinals, pitched 3 1/3 innings of scoreless relief, allowing only two hits, and gained the victory when the Pale Hose scored three runs in the seventh inning to defeat the Orioles, 6-3. Brian Downing walked and crossed the plate on a triple by Ralph Garr to break a 3-3 tie. Alan Bannister sent Garr home with a single.
