Errors by Jim Norris and Larvell Blanks enabled the Yankees to score three unearned runs to defeat the Indians, 4-3. Norris dropped a fly by Roy White with two out in second inning, leading to the Yankees' first run. Blanks booted a grounder by Willie Randolph to open the fifth.

After Dent and Mickey Rivers singled to load the bases, Willie Randolph scored on a sacrifice fly by Graig Nettles. Thurman Munson singled, driving in Dent, and Chris Chambliss followed with a sacrifice fly that sent Rivers home with what proved to be the deciding run. [The Sporting News]
