. . . where the 1970s live forever!

Steve Carlton recorded his 21st victory and struck out 14 as the Phillies trampled the Cardinals, 11-4. Carlton allowed only six hits, but they included homers by Garry Templeton, Ted Simmons and Ken Reitz. However, the Phillies had more firepower, putting the game away with six runs in the first inning.

Bake McBride opened with a triple and scored on a double by Mike Schmidt. Greg Luzinski followed with a homer. A single by Garry Maddox, doubles by Tim McCarver and Ted Sizemore and a single by Carlton added three more runs before the inning ended. Luzinski homered again with two men on base in the eighth, giving him five RBIs for the game. [The Sporting News]
