Tom House, veteran reliever who became a starter for the Mariners late in June, pitched the first complete game of his major league career and defeated the Rangers, 8-3. Until this year, House had started only once (in 1971) while appearing in 221 games with the Braves and Red Sox.

Leroy Stanton hit a two-run homer in the second inning and the Mariners then chased Gaylord Perry while counting five times in the fourth. Luis Delgado, rookie outfielder from Pawtucket (International), drove in one run with a single for his first major league hit. Two more scored on an error by Sandy Alomar and the final pair of the frame counted on a single by Ruppert Jones. Kurt Bevacqua and Toby Harrah hit homers for the Rangers. [The Sporting News]
