After being held to a pair of singles in the first five innings, the Red Sox broke loose to defeat the Tigers, 7-1, behind the five-hit pitching of Don Aase. Bernie Carbo awoke the Red Sox with a homer to lead off the sixth, tying the score at 1-1.

Fred Lynn walked and Carl Yastrzemski singled to chase Milt Wilcox, who wound up with his first defeat of the season after six victories. Jim Rice greeted Steve Foucault with a single, scoring Lynn. One out later, George Scott doubled, driving in Yastrzemski and Rice. [The Sporting News]
