The Mets broke a tie with five runs in the ninth inning and defeated the Cubs, 7-2. Lenny Randle led off with a single and when Lee Mazzilli bunted, all hands were safe on a late throw to second. Joel Youngblood looped a double to center, driving in Randle with the tie-breaking tally. The Mets then iced the decision with their remaining markers on a sacrifice fly by Steve Henderson, double by John Stearns and single by Bud Harrelson. [The Sporting News]
