Roy Howell batted in nine runs with two homers, two doubles and a single and the Blue Jays piled up a team record 20 hits while walloping the Yankees, 19-3. Doubles by Al Woods and Howell and a single by Ron Fairly started the Blue Jays' scoring in the first inning. Fairly's RBI was the 1,000th of his career.

Howell and Fairly hit homers in the third. Howell drove in two runs with a bases-loaded single in the sixth, hit his second homer of the game with two men on base in the seventh and climaxed his great day with a two-run double in the ninth. [The Sporting News]
