The pitching of Chris Knapp and batting of Jorge Orta carried the White Sox to a 6-2 victory in the first game of a doubleheader, but the Angels overcame a 4-1 deficit and rallied to win the second game, 5-4. Knapp had a no-hitter in the works before Rance Mulliniks singled with two out in the seventh inning. The young righthander then allowed three more hits while posting his victory and struck out 13. Orta batted in four runs with two doubles and two singles.

In the nightcap, the Angels put over the winning run in the eighth inning when Bobby Bonds walked, stole second and scored on a double by Mario Guerrero. [The Sporting News]
