Smashing a tie with three runs in the ninth inning, the Royals defeated the Twins, 4-1, for their 12th straight victory. Singles by Bob Randall and Jerry Terrell around a stolen base produced the Twins' run in the second. The Royals tied the score when John Wathan singled and Frank White doubled in the seventh.

Leading off the ninth, Wathan drew a walk and John Mayberry beat out a bunt. After a sacrifice by Fred Patek, White grounded to Roy Smalley, but the shortstop's throw home failed to nail Wathan. Joe Zdeb then singled, driving in Willie Wilson, who ran for Mayberry, and George Brett followed with a sacrifice fly to add the final tally. [The Sporting News]
