After the Astros picked up a run in the fourth on singles by Enos Cabell and Cesar Cedeno, plus a pair of infield outs, the Giants tied the score in fifth on a walk to Gary Thomasson and double by Mike Sadek. Rob Andrews opened the sixth with a single and scored on a triple by Darrell Evans. McCovey followed with his single, enabling the Giants to offset a run-scoring rally by the Astros in the ninth.
