Dale Murphy hit the first two homers of his major league career, connecting for the second time as the leadoff batter in the 10th inning to bring the Braves an 8-7 victory over the Padres. Gene Richards collected three singles for the Padres and stole two bases, raising his rookie season's total to 48.

After taking a 7-1 lead, the Padres committed four errors in the eighth, allowing the Braves to score five unearned runs.
