Mike Schmidt drove in the Phillies' first run with a sacrifice fly and then homered with two men on base to clinch an 8-2 victory over the Mets. The Phillies, who had not scored in 19 innings, ended their drouth in the first. Bake McBride walked and stole second. Larry Bowa also walked. After a double steal, Schmidt hit his sacrifice fly.

Craig Swan, who started for the Mets, walked himself out of the game by passing three batters in the second. After Bob Myrick relieved, the Phils scored twice on a single by Randy Lerch and sacrifice fly by Bowa. Schmidt hit his homer in the fourth following singles by McBride and Bowa.
