The Cardinals exploded for seven runs in the sixth inning and won the second game of a twi-night doubleheader, 10-7, after the Pirates had eked out a 4-3 victory in the first game. John Candelaria, the Pirates' winner in the opener, helped himself at bat with a two-run double. Rich Gossage relieved Candelaria in the ninth and saved the game, but not before allowing two runs to cross the plate on a bases-loaded single by Lou Brock.
