Pinch-hitter Craig Reynolds' RBI single in the eighth inning snapped a 1-1 tie and propelled the Mariners to a 4-1 victory over the Royals. The defeat snapped the 16-game K. C. winning streak, longest in the major leagues in 24 years and just three short of the record set in 1906 by the Chicago White Sox.

The winning rally came about when Juan Bernhardt singled and took second on a sacrifice bunt. He scored when Reynolds lined a shot to center. The Mariners got two insurance runs in the ninth on a single, two doubles and an error. [The Sporting News]
