Ken Singleton and Eddie Murray hit back-to-back homers in the ninth inning to power the Orioles to a 4-1 victory over the Indians. Jim Palmer, who won his sixth straight game and 19th of the season, pitched out of a bases-loaded jam in the eighth, retiring Andre Thornton on a pop-up, striking out Bruce Bochte and getting Rico Carty on a long fly to center.

Dennis Eckersley, who struck out 12 Orioles, had one away in the ninth when Singleton homered to break a 1-1 tie and Murray followed with another circuit clout. The Orioles went on to load the bases and scored a superfluous run on a balk by reliever Jim Bibby. [The Sporting News]
