Making only his fourth start of the season, Mark Littell yielded just two hits in seven innings and the Royals took advantage of two errors by Dave Chalk to defeat the Angels, 4-3. The West Division champion Royals did not insert any regular into their lineup until the last half of the ninth inning.

Chalk's first error on a grounder by Cookie Rojas in the fourth led to a pair of unearned runs on back-to-back triples by Bob Heise and U.L. Washington. Joe Zdeb, John Wathan and Rojas hit safely for another run in the fifth and Chalk's second error led to the Royals' last run in the sixth. Don Baylor homered for the Angels. [The Sporting News]
