The Pirates rallied for four runs in the sixth inning and defeated the Cubs, 7-3. The Cubs scored twice in the first, chasing Jerry Reuss, but the Pirates came back with a two-run homer by Al Oliver in the fourth. After Bobby Murcer put the Cubs ahead again with a circuit clout in the fifth, the Pirates began their sixth with the tying run on singles by Oliver, Ken Macha and Ed Ott.

After an intentional pass to Omar Moreno, Bobby Tolan hit a sacrifice fly. Dave Giusti then uncorked a wild pitch, allowing Ott to score, and when catcher George Mitterwald threw wildly after retrieving the ball, Moreno also crossed the plate. [The Sporting News]
