Completing the sweep of the four-game series, the Athletics defeated the West Division champion Royals, 6-5, in 10 innings. The Royals scored four runs in the first and made it 5-2 in the eighth before the A's rallied to tie the score.

Mike Jorgensen drove in one run with a sacrifice fly and Manny Sanguillen batted in two others with a single. Jorgensen led off the 10th with a single and gave way to pinch-runner Larry Murray. After a sacrifice by Jim Tyrone and infield out by Jerry Tabb, Marty Perez singled to plate the winning run. [The Sporting News]
