Andre Dawson, who hit a homer earlier in the game, knocked in the tie-breaker with a single in the 12th inning as the Expos erupted for three runs to defeat the Phillies, 6-5. Jay Johnstone hit a two-run homer for the Phils in the eighth to tie the score at 3-3.

In the 12th, Pepe Frias led off with a single for the Expos. After Dan Warthen made a wild throw on a bunt by Chris Speier, Andre Dawson singled to drive in Frias. Pete Mackanin, running for Speier, crossed the plate on an infield out by Sam Mejias and Dawson then scored what proved to be the winning run on a single by pinch-hitter Jose Morales.
