Two Ranger off-season acquisitions -- Richie Zisk, obtained in the re-entry draft from the White Sox, and Jon Matlack, acquired in a deal with the Mets -- paid immediate dividends in a 2-1 victory over the Yankees before a record Arlington Stadium opening-day crowd of 40,078.

Zisk, who had three hits in four trips, drove in the Rangers' first run with a single in the first inning and smashed a homer for the winning run in the ninth. Matlack hurled the route to record his first A. L. victory. [The Sporting News]
