Rod Carew rapped three singles to raise his batting average to .550 as the Twins prevailed over the Mariners, 8-6. The Mariners vaulted into a 5-4 lead in the fourth inning on the strength of a grand-slam homer by Leon Roberts.

But the Twins tied the contest in the next frame on Roy Smalley's sacrifice fly and went ahead as Bob Randall grounded into a forceout. Smalley hit a homer in the seventh to account for the Twins' final tally. [The Sporting News]
