Ross Grimsley, making his first N.L. appearance in four years, tossed a three-hitter to give the Expos a 5-0 verdict over the Mets and a split of their doubleheader. It was the Expos' first victory of the season. In the opener, Steve Henderson clubbed a pinch-hit, bases-loaded homer and Bruce Boisclair hit a two-run blast as the Mets held on for a 6-5 decision.

The Expos scored their first two runs in the second inning of the nightcap on a double by Larry Parrish and triple by Chris Speier and later tallied on RBI singles by Andre Dawson, Gary Carter and Del Unser. Henderson's grand slam in the opener came off Darold Knowles, who relieved Hal Dues in the sixth inning after the Mets loaded the bases on singles by Boisclair and Willie Montanez and a walk to Lee Mazzilli.
