. . . where the 1970s live forever!

John Henry Johnson, who hurled in Class A last year, won his first major league start as the A's edged the Mariners, 1-0, in their home opener. The only run came in the first inning when Miguel Dilone doubled, went to third on an infield out and scored on Gary Alexander's single. Dave Heaverlo pitched the last three innings to record the save.

Johnson, Alexander and Heaverlo all came to the A's in the Vida Blue trade. The crowd of 17,283 was a surprise as tickets weren't made available until five days prior to the game and no more than 5,000 were expected. [The Sporting News]
