Milt May's three-run homer was the big blow as the Tigers clawed the Rangers, 6-2, behind the steady hurling of Dave Rozema. In the fifth inning, Ranger starter Doc Medich walked Rusty Staub and Steve Kemp and gave up an RBI single to Tim Corcoran. Ranger manager Billy Hunter went to the mound but returned to the dugout, leaving Medich in the game. Before Medich could make a pitch to May, Hunter started back to the mound. The umpires ruled that since the manager had made the first visit, he had to let Medich make at least one more pitch before removing him. On Medich's next pitch, May homered into the right feld bleachers. [The Sporting News] |
