With one out, Dave Cash walked and when third baseman Steve Ontiveros threw away a grounder by Andre Dawson, Cash reached third and Dawson second.

Gary Carter drew an intentional walk and Tony Perez grounded to pitcher Bruce Sutter, who threw Cash out at the plate. But Valentine singled in two runs and when left fielder Gene Clines bobbled the ball, Perez reached third and Valentine second. Parrish then hit a single to score both runners. [The Sporting News]
