The decisive stanza began when Pete Rose singled to center after two were out. Ken Griffey followed with a double and Joe Morgan drew an intentional walk to set the stage for Foster. The Giants' run came in the fourth on a walk, two infield outs and a dropped throw at first by pitcher Fred Norman. The Reds tied the game in the sixth on a walk to Foster and triple by Dan Driessen.
