A four-run outburst in the seventh inning snapped a scoreless tie and enabled the Cardinals to down the Expos, 7-2, snapping the Montreal winning streak at five games. Ted Simmons led off the seventh with a single and Jerry Morales reached first safely when his sacrifice bunt was thrown to second too late to catch Simmons. After Lou Brock walked, Bill Atkinson relieved Hal Dues on the mound.

Ken Reitz doubled to score two runs and another pair came home on a single by Mike Tyson. John Urrea got credit for his first victory of the season but lost the shutout in the ninth when the Expos scored twice on singles by Gary Carter and Chris Speier wrapped around an error and two infield outs.
