Frank Tanana became the major leagues' first five-game winner as the Angels downed the Mariners, 5-1. The lefty yielded only a fourth-inning homer to Leon Roberts and three harmless singles.

Lyman Bostock's first-inning triple drove in Bobby Grich with the Angels' first run and Rance Mulliniks singled home Carney Lansford, who had doubled, in the second. Pinch-hitter Tony Solaita delivered a key two-run single during a three-run outburst in the seventh inning. [The Sporting News]
