The Cubs blew a five-run lead but came back to score twice in the eighth inning and subdue the Braves, 7-5. Bobby Murcer led off the eighth with a single and went to third on a single by Steve Ontiveros. Manny Trillo then laced a triple down the right field line to snap the deadlock.

The Cubs scored in the first on an infield out by Murcer and added four runs in the second on Ivan DeJesus' RBI single and a three run homer by Greg Gross. The Braves drew to within 5-3 on a two-run homer by Dale Murphy in the second and a solo shot by Rowland Office in the sixth before tying the score in the seventh on an RBI single by Office and sacrifice fly by Jeff Burroughs.
