Rookie righthander Rich Gale, called up from Omaha to replace Steve Busby, limited the Brewers to six hits over seven innings as the Royals posted a 3-0 victory over the Brewers. Gale developed a blister on the middle finger of his pitching hand and gave way to Steve Mingori in the eighth. The reliever held the Brewers hitless over the final two stanzas. The first Royal run came when Willie Wilson was hit by a pitch, stole second and came around to score on two groundouts. Clint Hurdle walked to open the fifth, went to second on a wild pitch and took third on the same play when catcher Charlie Moore threw the ball into center field. Freddie Patek then singled him home. After a single by Frank White, Patek also scored on a suicide squeeze by Jerry Terrell. [The Sporting News] |
