Pinch-hitter Bruce Boisclair's single off shortstop Dave Concepcion's glove scored Lenny Randle from second base in the 10th inning to give the Mets a 3-2 triumph over the Reds. Randle opened the 10th by drawing a walk and moved to second on Lee Mazzilli's sacrifice bunt. Boisclair, batting for winning pitcher Skip Lockwood, followed with the game-winning hit.

The Mets had tied the score in the 9th on singles by Elliott Maddox, Steve Henderson and John Stearns. The Reds' two runs came in the fifth on a solo homer by Dan Driessen and infield out by Don Werner. Singles by Doug Flynn, Mike Bruhert and Mazzilli gave the Mets a run in the third inning.
