. . . where the 1970s live forever!

Mike Torrez brought his record to 5-1 and the Red Sox gained their ninth victory in the last 10 games by defeating the Twins, 4-2. Torrez was lifted after yielding a single by Rod Carew to open the ninth inning. Tom Burgmeier hit Dan Ford with a pitch but then retired the side to save the game.

The Red Sox scored twice in the second on a single by Butch Hobson and pass to Rick Burleson with the bases loaded. Fred Lynn provided the decisive marker with a 420-foot homer over the center field wall in the fourth. Carew knocked in one of the Twins' runs with a double and Mike Cubbage accounted for the other tally with a homer. [The Sporting News]
