Capitalizing on the wildness of Woodie Fryman, who walked seven batters in four innings, the Dodgers turned three passes into runs and defeated the Cubs, 5-2. In the second, after Lee Lacy doubled, Fryman walked Steve Yeager and Davey Lopes to load the bases. Bill Russell doubled to drive in two runs and Reggie Smith followed with a sacrifice fly for the third counter.

A pass to Smith and double by Ron Cey added a run off Fryman in the fourth. Dave Kingman homered with a man on base for the Cubs in the ninth to chase Tommy John, but Terry Forster relieved and struck out the next three batters. [The Sporting News]
