The Angels survived a ninth-inning rally to ease past the Indians, 4-3. Angel ace Frank Tanana had a 4-0 lead going into the ninth, but was removed after two were out. Ted Cox began the rally with a leadoff single and was forced at second.

Singles by Ron Pruitt and Paul Dade produced one run and after Tanana retired the next batter, Paul Hartzell relieved. Pinch-hitter Jim Norris and Willie Horton greeted the change with run-scoring singles before Hartzell retired Mike Vail to end the game. [The Sporting News]
