The Astros jumped on Steve Carlton for three runs in their first turn at bat and went on to post a 6-1 triumph over the Phillies. Terry Puhl hit a leadoff triple and scored on a single by Enos Cabell.

Cesar Cedeno followed with a single and Bob Watson drove in Cabell with another base hit. The third run scored on Art Howe's sacrifice fly. The Astros got strong relief pitching from Floyd Bannister, who allowed just one hit in 2 2/3 innings. [The Sporting News]
