Jim Sundberg's third hit of the game, a single in the eighth inning, drove in Al Oliver and gave the Rangers a 4-3 triumph over the A's. Oliver doubled with one out and after Richie Zisk was intentionally walked, Elias Sosa relieved John Henry Johnson on the mound forthe A's. Sundberg then smacked Sosa's first pitch for a hit to score Oliver. Sundberg stretched his hitting streak to 16 games, longest in the A.L. this year. The Rangers scored three times in the first on a double by Bert Campaneris, single by Oliver, walk to Zisk, single by Sundberg and sacrifice fly by Juan Beniquez. A single by Mitchell Page and triple by Mario Guerrero scored a run for the A's in the first and a two-run homer by Wayne Gross tied the game in the second. [The Sporting News] |
