Tug McGraw's mastery of his former teammates came to an end when the Mets rallied to defeat the Phillies, 4-3. McGraw, who had held the Mets scoreless for 22 1/3 innings since May 27, 1976, relieved Jim Kaat in the eighth inning after the Phillies had taken a 3-0 lead.

The Mets promptly tied the score with the aid of an error by Mike Schmidt. Then, in the ninth, Bruce Boisclair hit a pinch-double and Lenny Randle beat out a bunt. After Joel Youngblood forced Randle, Boisclair holding third, McGraw walked Steve Henderson intentionally to load the bases. Willie Montanez then bounced a grounder over McGraw's head for an infield hit, scoring Boisclair with the winning run. [The Sporting News]
