Continuing to have his troubles in relief, Rollie Fingers was knocked out in the eighth inning when the Reds erupted for six runs to beat the Padres, 10-6. The loss was Fingers' sixth against one win.

Dave Concepcion ignited the outburst with a triple. Fingers then walked three of the next five batters to force in one run, leaving the bases loaded, and George Foster cleared the sacks with a triple. Following Fingers' departure, the Reds added their last two tallies on a single by Dan Driessen, pass to Johnny Bench and single by Concepcion for his second hit of the inning. [The Sporting News]
