The Giants' eight-game winning streak came to an end when Randy Moffitt, relieving with the bases loaded in the ninth inning, hit Bill Russell with his first pitch to force in the run that gave the Dodgers a 3-2 victory. Darrell Evans homered for the Giants and Steve Garvey for the Dodgers.

Bill North opened the Dodgers' ninth with a double off Gary Lavelle. After an intentional pass to Steve Yeager, Manny Mota sacrificed. The Giants then also walked Lee Lacy to load the bases before Moffitt took the mound and uncorked the pitch that hit Russell. [The Sporting News]
