. . . where the 1970s live forever!

A brief relief appearance by Shane Rawley resulted in the rookie lefthander receiving credit for his first major league victory when the Mariners defeated the Rangers, 7-3. Glenn Abbott, who started for the Mariners, was kayoed in the sixth when Bobby Bonds and Jim Sundberg homered to put the Rangers ahead, 3-2. Sundberg's blow extended his hitting streak to 20 games.

After Rawley relieved and retired the last batter in the sixth, the Mariners came back in their half with a single by Leon Roberts and homer by Steve Braun to beat Fergie Jenkins. Rawley was removed with two outs in the seventh, after pitching what amounted to one inning, and Enrique Romo came in to save the game. [The Sporting News]
