Taking advantage of two Kansas City errors and three wild pitches, the Mariners sailed to a 10-1 thumping of the Royals. A walk, two fielder's choice grounders, an error and a triple by Larry Milbourne produced three second-inning runs. Bruce Bochte hit a solo homer to increase the lead to 4-0 in the third. Four more tallies were added in the fourth.

Ruppert Jones led off with a double and Juan Bernhardt hit an RBI single. Milbourne reached first on an error by shortstop Freddie Patek and a double by Julio Cruz produced another run. When the throw from K. C. left fielder Willie Wilson was wild to second base, both Bernhardt and Cruz scored. Three wild pitches by Doug Bird, one short of the A.
