After being blanked for eight innings, the Giants erupted for three runs in the ninth to capture a 3-2 decision from the Astros. The rally began when Jack Clark and Larry Herndon drew one-out walks and a single by Marc Hill scored Clark.

After Vic Harris fouled out, pinch-hitter Tom Heintzelman stroked a single to deliver Herndon with the tying run. Bill Madlock then blasted a ball to the fence, scoring Mike Sadek, the pinch-runner for Hill, with the winning counter. [The Sporting News]
