The Red Sox used the long ball to shoot down the Blue Jays, 9-5. The scoring opened in the second inning when Dwight Evans hit a two-run homer. After the Jays tied the score, the Sox took the lead for keeps in the fifth on a three-run round-tripper by Jim Rice. The circuit clout broke an 0-for-11 slump for the Bosox slugger and was preceded by singles by Fred Kendall and Jerry Remy. [The Sporting News]
