A two-out single by Lenny Randle in the 11th inning drove in the winning run as the Mets edged the Pirates, 3-2. The run was set up when Pirate third baseman Phil Garner booted a grounder by Dale Murray, who then advanced to second on a wild pitch before Randle delivered his decisive hit. The Mets had tied the game in the sixth on a two-out, two-run double by Willie Montanez that scored Elliott Maddox, aboard on a fielder's choice, and Lee Mazzilli, who had singled.
