A three-run pinch-homer by Mike Lum in the eighth inning lifted the Reds to a 7-5 verdict over the Braves. The Reds entered the eighth trailing, 4-3, and tied the score when Dave Concepcion singled home Pete Rose, who had walked and moved to third on a double by Ken Griffey.

With two out, Mike Lum connected for his second homer of the season off reliever Rick Camp. The first three Red runs came on a three-run homer by George Foster in the fifth frame.
