The White Sox sent 15 men to the plate in an 11-run fifth inning en route to a 17-2 plastering of the Angels. The big barrage started with one out on a single by Greg Pryor. Thad Bosley then grounded to losing pitcher Don Aase, who threw wildly to first base as Pryor scored and Bosley reached third. A single by Ralph Garr scored Bosley and brought on Ken Brett to relieve Aase.

Jorge Orta singled and pinch-hitter Lamar Johnson grounded to shortstop Rance Mulliniks. But second baseman Bobby Grich dropped the ball at second on the attempted force play for an error. Chet Lemon then doubled to drive in two runs and after Alan Bannister was walked intentionally to fill the bases, a double by Bill Nahorodny plated three more.

Pryor doubled to score Nahorodny and Tom Griffin relieved Brett. A single by Bosley put Pryor on third and Griffin booted Garr's grounder as both Pryor and Bosley scored, Garr reaching third. A single by Orta drove in the 11th run of the inning. [The Sporting News]
