A six-run explosion in the first inning gave the Blue Jays a 6-2 triumph over the Red Sox, who were stopped on their eight-game winning streak. The Jays sent 11 batters to the plate in their opening turn.

A double by Bob Bailor and walk to Roy Howell opened the attack. A double by Otto Velez scored both runners and a double by John Mayberry plated Velez. Three walks and a single by Rick Bosetti accounted for the other Jays' runs. [The Sporting News]
