Firing his third straight shutout and 49th of his career, Jim Palmer pitched the Orioles to a 1-0 triumph over the Yankees. The righthander yielded only two hits -- a single by Lou Piniella in the second inning and a single by Chris Chambliss in the seventh.

The Orioles' run came in the fifth on an error by Yank catcher Cliff Johnson. Doug DeCinces walked and stopped at second on a single by Rick Dempsey. Mark Belanger, trying to bunt, hit into a double play, eliminating Dempsey as DeCinces took third.
