The Expos broke a 2-2 tie in the seventh inning and went on to top the Padres, 4-3. Andre Dawson was hit by a pitch to open the inning. He then stole second and scored on Dave Cash's sharp single to left.

Ellis Valentine doubled home what proved to be the Expos' winning run in the eighth inning. Rudy May, getting relief help from Mike Garman, got credit for his sixth win.
